Throughout her entire career, Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos has recorded ideas and studies through texts, drawings, and collages in a series of notebooks that document her creative work. Her personal archive becomes a visual biography. There we find everything from her earliest drawings of the organic forms that made her so well known, to notes from her art and jewelry-making classes, her first sculptures, and performances. Here we have her way of seeing, creating, and reinventing life. These notebooks began in 1989 and continue to this day, in the same format, revealing the artist's remarkable historical awareness, recording and sharing her entire creative process.

When she turned 50, in 2021, the artist decided to share these personal records through a special project: an exquisite art edition in which the notebook grows to monumental scale, accompanied by a unique tile (azulejo) work in each copy.

 

The edition is limited to just 9 copies per book, printed in fine-art format on Hahnemühle bamboo-fiber paper that reproduces the color nuances and collages of the original material. Each artist's book, presented in a case-box, features different covering materials: cork, mirror, fabric, paper, and more.

An opportunity to own a piece that carries, beyond the artwork itself, a bit of the artist's own history.
